A PEOPLE IN SEARCH FOR A LAND THEY HAVE NOT YET SEEN

I remember times when I would lie in bed and wonder, was this all there is? The thoughts would overwhelm me and became more like feelings. These feelings would burn deep within my heart, even to make my very spirit ache with the questions… WHY AM I NOT MORE THAN I AM, WHY ARE WE SO CRUEL TO EACH OTHER, WHY IS THE WORLD SO BROKEN? I would be left with emptiness, loss and brokenness, if I didn’t breakdown in tears, I would be close. There should be something more.

I’m 53 now but earlier in my 20’s, I started asking others if they also had these feelings. To my surprise I was not alone and if my memory serves is correct, no one I’ve asked has denied having them.

The big question to me was why?

Why does it seem regardless of who we are, everyone has had times when they have had these feelings? Maybe you the reader have also experienced these feelings. Have you ever asked the the same questions?

Why do we feel that something is missing or broken within us or the world? The very question or feeling would suggest that there was or will be a time when everything was or is whole and complete.

Some people suppress these feelings, some break down, some forget them only to have them well up again and other’s become numb. My question to you is why? Where do these feelings come from? Why do we feel there is more to all of this, why do we feel that the world is broken and it needs to be healed? Why do we feel that we need to be healed and made complete?

It’s as if we are a people in search for a land we have not yet seen.

A land where all is right, a land where we are made whole. Can this place exist? If it does where did this feeling come from? Was it placed on our hearts from a somewhere in mankind’s past? Is it placed on our hearts by someone and if so who?

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

I believe there is an answer.
